Dean knows. Of course Dean knows. I mean, look at him, he can’t even look at Cas straight on when he asks “what broke the connection”? He just stares at Cas’s chest and blinks a lot. He knows why, deep down, he just needs to hear Cas say it, before he’ll believe it.
And Cas can’t even look at him when he answers, “I don’t know”.
God, seriously, these two idiots. I mean, not that I expected anything different from them — if this were the season finale, maybe — but god, all that’s left now is for them to say it already.
That’s why I don’t get the same feeling as some who think everything was sunk. Quite the opposite. People have suggested this is actually a new beginning, and I can’t help but agree. Dean is finally able to say a plain and simple “I need you”. He finally said it. It’s not the end. It’s the closing statement of an era, and the opening of new one.
And just after inaugurating it, a new promise is made. A set up is created. Because Dean asks what broke the connection, and everybody saw how Dean’s words that brought Cas back. Everybody knows the answer is “you”. But it’s important that Cas doesn’t say it here. It’s important that Dean asks this even if it is, apparently, unnecessary. Because it really isn’t: the question has been asked, but it hasn’t been answered yet. We “don’t know”. It means it will need to be answered eventually.

On Colin:

If you had a scene with Colin you would be better, I think. He’s genuinely one of the nicest people. He loves acting so much and so committed. He gave his life over for the eight months we filmed. He’s someone I am in awe of. I’d like to be a bit more like him.”
On Bradley:
“Bradley—most like his character,” Young said. “A leader of men. Seriously competitive. I’d say that’s it. Yeah, one of the most competitive people you’ll ever meet.”
